The idea was to write 250 words based on a provided prompt.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWill it always feel this odd?\u201d said Douglas, opening his eyes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo,\u201d answered Dr. Grim. \u201cYou\u2019re body will adapt.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut it feels so cold,\u201d said Douglas, touching his face.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSteel,\u201d said Dr. Grim.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow about all the dials and numbers? \u201cWill I always\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou&#8217;ll get used to it,\u201d interrupted Dr. Grim. \u201cEverything you need is in the packet the nurse gave you. My advice is to wait a few hours before looking in the mirror. We don&#8217;t need you back here with a heart attack.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIs it that bad?\u201d asked Douglas, peeking at the shape his shadow cast on the floor.<br \/>\n\u201cNot everyone can afford the best parts, son\u201d said Dr. Grim, walking toward the door.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSometimes we have to improvise. \u201c<\/p>\n<p>Douglas&#8217; shoulders dropped. \u201cWhat happened, Doc?\u201d he whispered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll in the packet,\u201d said the doctor, closing the door behind him.<\/p>\n<p>His mind spinning, Douglas sat alone with his uncertainty. How had he died? Who had paid for the procedure? And why couldn&#8217;t feel his lips move when he talked?<\/p>\n<p>Douglas opened the envelope with a shaking index finger and removed a thin pamphlet, hoping for answers. Staring back at him was the title: \u201cYour New Head: The First Twenty-Four Hours\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Laughing, Douglas tossed the packet in the bin marked Biohazard. He would find his answers where all great thinkers do, not in some book, but at the bottom of an icy glass. He was thirsty and his problems could wait.
