The idea was to write 250 words based on a provided prompt.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo the dishes yet?\u201d said Gavin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI told you I\u2019d get to it,\u201d said Samuel. \u201cGet off my back. I\u2019ve got a Calc final Thursday and a Chemistry paper due Friday. Besides, those dishes aren\u2019t even mine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know,\u201d said Gavin. \u201cI\u2019ve seen your cup. Wouldn\u2019t hurt you to wash it every once in a while.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI rinse it,\u201d said Samuel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou pledges need to know your place,\u201d said Gavin, ignoring the freshman. \u201cMy mom\u2019s visiting this weekend.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s visiting me this weekend,\u201d said Samuel under his breath.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat\u2019s that?\u201d said Gavin stepping forward.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNothing,\u201d said Samuel. \u201cI\u2019ll do it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGood,\u201d said Gavin, tossing a half-eaten plate of nachos into the mess. \u201cI better see a clean sink soon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That Friday, following dinner at the Olive Garden, Gavin escorted his mother around the house, visiting the kitchen first.<\/p>\n<p>Little punk\u2019s lucky, Gavin thought. The sink looks better than when we moved in. He\u2019ll have to do the dishes every week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet\u2019s see your room,\u201d said Gavin\u2019s mother motioning upstairs. \u201cYou must be hiding those textbooks someplace.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSure,\u201d answered Gavin. He had made sure to prepare his room for such a drop in.<\/p>\n<p>Opening the door, nudging his mother inside, Gavin\u2019s jaw dropped. Strewn across his bed was every single dish from the sink, filthy as ever. Spread prominently on the floor was his secret stash of magazines, open to the most revealing pages.<\/p>\n<p>Placed neatly on his pillow was a note from Samuel which read, \u201cI quit.
