Writing From The Past – Robitussin

Writing From The Past – Robitussin

I was cleaning out some old papers from college. I came across this gem from my writing course. I think it’s pretty decent, though it could use a few edits. Man, did I hate Robitussin.

When I was sick as a child my mom would make me take Robitussin cold medicine. As soon as I would see the bottle, I knew what was next, my stomach would turn and the saliva in my mouth would dry up. My mouth couldn’t take another teaspoon of the blood red poison and neither could I.

When I drank of this vile concoction I tried not to let it touch my tongue but it always did. My taste buds would contract on my tongue as if they were hiding from this evil medicine. My eyes and nose would begin to burn. I would drink a glass of water to quench the fire.

Nintendo had a big press conference yesterday where they announced a bunch of things to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Super Mario Brothers. The big one, to me, is called Super Mario 3D All Stars. That’s Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy all in one game for the Switch.

Now, I own all these games for their respective consoles. But I’m still excited to get this anyhow. I’m excited to play Mario 64 on a nice TV and on a controller that isn’t the Nintendo 64 controller. I’m also…excited(?)…to play Mario Sunshine again? I wouldn’t exactly say I’m excited to play that one because it’s the one Mario game that really frustrated me. But I do want to give it another chance, I suppose.

Mario Galaxy we still have for Wii. I used to play this one while my daughter watched me play. It was like watching TV for her. That game is super fun.

Anyway, I’m happy Nintendo is doing this. It will be nice for more people to experience these games. Let’sa go!

Long-hidden Windows 95 easter egg revealed / Boing Boing

This is pretty rad. A Windows 95 Easter Egg was recently revealed. You can read the Boing Boing post below. It’s just wild that it lasted 25 years and nobody found it, though if you watch the video you can see the three step process to make the Easter Egg happen that would’ve been a crazy coincidence to stumble upon without any prior knowledge.

You’ve visited Windows 95’s Hall of Tortured Souls, but here’s a far more charming easter egg revealed by one of the people who worked on Microsoft’s all-conquering operatin…

The Man – Taylor Swift

The Man – Taylor Swift

I’ve not watched the MTV VMAs since probably the late 90s. I’ve probably not turned on MTV since like 2006 or something. So I’m not really interested in who wins those things. That said, Taylor Swift won the Best Music Video Direction VMA for her direction of her video for her song The Man.

Honestly I’ll take any excuse to post this video or this song. I fell in love with it when I first heard it on her Tiny Desk Concert performance for NPR. She does take so much crap from people for simply writing songs about what is going on in her life. Things that a man would not be criticized for.

Anyway, watch the video. It’s worth it.

Bill and Ted Face The Music

Bill and Ted Face The Music

Tomorrow, August 28, 2020 will be a most excellent day. For this is the day that I can finally watch Bill and Ted 3 aka Bill and Ted Face The Music.

We first discovered the original Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure as a rental from our local Mom and Pop video rental store (RIP Videos Unlimited). In my memory, my Dad and I would rent it every weekend to the chagrin of my Mom and Sister. We probably only rented it every other weekend. But that movie contains three of my favorite elements of a good story:

  • Heart
  • Comedy
  • Time Travel

It was just the perfect film for us. So once it came time for the sequel, Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey, we went and saw it in the theater. And… we liked it. Not as much as the first film, though, because the sequel was different. They don’t really time travel, but rather visit Heaven and Hell. But as the years have gone on, I have come to enjoy Bogus Journey ALMOST as much as Excellent Adventure. Except for the aliens named Station. They still aren’t for me.

Since they are doing PR to support the film, there have been a ton of articles about the movies. This one from EW.com is as good as any. It gets into the struggle to get the movie made and how the originals gained in popularity through the years. It’s worth your time.

So yeah, I plan on purchasing Bill and Ted Face The Music tomorrow and watching it that night. I can’t think of a better way to start the weekend.
